37:1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD

and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones.

37:2 He led me back and forth among them,

and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry.

37:3 He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?"

I said, "O Sovereign LORD, you alone know."

37:4 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones and say to them,

'Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD!

37:5 This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones:

I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life.

37:6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin;

I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.'"

37:7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise,

a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone.

37:8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them,

but there was no breath in them.

37:9 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it,

'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come from the four winds, O breath,

and breathe into these slain, that they may live.'"

37:10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them;

they came to life and stood up on their feet--a vast army.

37:11 Then he said to me: "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel.

They say, 'Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.'

37:12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says:

         O my people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them;

I will bring you back to the land of Israel.

37:13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD,

when I open your graves and bring you up from them.

37:14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land.

Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.'"

10:25 As Peter entered the house, Cornelius met him and fell at his feet in reverence.

10:26 But Peter made him get up. "Stand up," he said, "I am only a man myself."

10:27 Talking with him, Peter went inside and found a large gathering of people.

10:28 He said to them: "You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with a Gentile or visit him. But God has shown me that I should not call any man impure or unclean.

10:29 So when I was sent for, I came without raising any objection. May I ask why you sent for me?"

10:30 Cornelius answered: "Four days ago I was in my house praying at this hour, at three in the afternoon. Suddenly a man in shining clothes stood before me

10:31 and said, 'Cornelius, God has heard your prayer and remembered your gifts to the poor.

10:32 Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He is a guest in the home of Simon the tanner, who lives by the sea.'

10:33 So I sent for you immediately, and it was good of you to come. Now we are all here in the presence of God to listen to everything the Lord has commanded you to tell us."

10:34 Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism

10:35 but accepts men from every nation who fear him and do what is right.

10:36 You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.

10:37 You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached--

10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.

10:39 "We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a tree,

10:40 but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.

10:41 He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen--by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.

10:42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.

10:43 All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name."

10:44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.

8:13 Then I heard a holy one speaking, and another holy one said to him, "How long will it take for the vision to be fulfilled--the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes desolation, and the surrender of the sanctuary and of the host that will be trampled underfoot?"

8:14 He said to me, "It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated."

8:15 While I, Daniel, was watching the vision and trying to understand it, there before me stood one who looked like a man.

8:16 And I heard a man's voice from the Ulai calling, "Gabriel, tell this man the meaning of the vision."

8:17 As he came near the place where I was standing, I was terrified and fell prostrate. "Son of man," he said to me, "understand that the vision concerns the time of the end."

8:18 While he was speaking to me, I was in a deep sleep, with my face to the ground. Then he touched me and raised me to my feet.

8:19 He said: "I am going to tell you what will happen later in the time of wrath, because the vision concerns the appointed time of the end.

8:20 The two-horned ram that you saw represents the kings of Media and Persia.

8:21 The shaggy goat is the king of Greece, and the large horn between his eyes is the first king.

8:22 The four horns that replaced the one that was broken off represent four kingdoms that will emerge from his nation but will not have the same power.

8:23 "In the latter part of their reign, when rebels have become completely wicked, a stern-faced king, a master of intrigue, will arise.

8:24 He will become very strong, but not by his own power. He will cause astounding devastation and will succeed in whatever he does. He will destroy the mighty men and the holy people.

8:25 He will cause deceit to prosper, and he will consider himself superior. When they feel secure, he will destroy many and take his stand against the Prince of princes. Yet he will be destroyed, but not by human power.

8:26 "The vision of the evenings and mornings that has been given you is true, but seal up the vision, for it concerns the distant future."

8:27 I, Daniel, was exhausted and lay ill for several days. Then I got up and went about the king's business. I was appalled by the vision; it was beyond understanding.

1 At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion in what was known as the Italian Regiment.

2 He and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly.

3 One day at about three in the afternoon he had a vision. He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said, "Cornelius!"

4 Cornelius stared at him in fear. "What is it, Lord?" he asked. The angel answered, "Your prayers and gifts to the poor have come up as a memorial offering before God.

5 Now send men to Joppa to bring back a man named Simon who is called Peter.

6 He is staying with Simon the tanner, whose house is by the sea."

7 When the angel who spoke to him had gone, Cornelius called two of his servants and a devout soldier who was one of his attendants.

8 He told them everything that had happened and sent them to Joppa.

9 About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray.

10 He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance.

11 He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners.

12 It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles of the earth and birds of the air.

13 Then a voice told him, "Get up, Peter. Kill and eat."

14 "Surely not, Lord!" Peter replied. "I have never eaten anything impure or unclean."

15 The voice spoke to him a second time, "Do not call anything impure that God has made clean."

16 This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.
