21:18 이른 아침에 성으로 들어오실 때에 시장하신지라  

21:19 길 가에서 한 무화과나무를 보시고 그리로 가사 잎사귀 밖에 아무 것도 찾지 못하시고 나무에게 이르시되 이제부터 영원토록 네가 열매를 맺지 못하리라 하시니 무화과나무가 곧 마른지라  

21:20 제자들이 보고 이상히 여겨 이르되 무화과나무가 어찌하여 곧 말랐나이까  

21:21 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 만일 너희가 믿음이 있고 의심하지 아니하면 이 무화과나무에게 된 이런 일만 할 뿐 아니라 이 산더러 들려 바다에 던져지라 하여도 될 것이요  

21:22 너희가 기도할 때에 무엇이든지 믿고 구하는 것은 다 받으리라 하시니라 

21:23 예수께서 성전에 들어가 가르치실새 대제사장들과 백성의 장로들이 나아와 이르되 네가 무슨 권위로 이런 일을 하느냐 또 누가 이 권위를 주었느냐  

21:24 예수께서 대답하시되 나도 한 말을 너희에게 물으리니 너희가 대답하면 나도 무슨 권위로 이런 일을 하는지 이르리라  

21:25 요한의 세례가 어디로부터 왔느냐 하늘로부터냐 사람으로부터냐 그들이 서로 의논하여 이르되 만일 하늘로부터라 하면 어찌하여 그를 믿지 아니하였느냐 할 것이요  

21:26 만일 사람으로부터라 하면 모든 사람이 요한을 선지자로 여기니 백성이 무섭다 하여  

21:27 예수께 대답하여 이르되 우리가 알지 못하노라 하니 예수께서 이르시되 나도 무슨 권위로 이런 일을 하는지 너희에게 이르지 아니하리라  

21:28 그러나 너희 생각에는 어떠하냐 어떤 사람에게 두 아들이 있는데 맏아들에게 가서 이르되 얘 오늘 포도원에 가서 일하라 하니  

21:29 대답하여 이르되 아버지 가겠나이다 하더니 가지 아니하고  

21:30 둘째 아들에게 가서 또 그와 같이 말하니 대답하여 이르되 싫소이다 하였다가 그 후에 뉘우치고 갔으니  

21:31 그 둘 중의 누가 아버지의 뜻대로 하였느냐 이르되 둘째 아들이니이다 예수께서 그들에게 이르시되 내가 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 세리들과 창녀들이 너희보다 먼저 하나님의 나라에 들어가리라  

21:32 요한이 의의 도로 너희에게 왔거늘 너희는 그를 믿지 아니하였으되 세리와 창녀는 믿었으며 너희는 이것을 보고도 끝내 뉘우쳐 믿지 아니하였도다

21:18 Early in the morning, as he was on his way back to the city, he was hungry.

21:19 Seeing a fig tree by the road, he went up to it but found nothing on it except leaves. Then he said to it, "May you never bear fruit again!" Immediately the tree withered.

21:20 When the disciples saw this, they were amazed. "How did the fig tree wither so quickly?" they asked.

21:21 Jesus replied, "I tell you the truth, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and it will be done.

21:22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

21:23 Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. "By what authority are you doing these things?" they asked. "And who gave you this authority?"

21:24 Jesus replied, "I will also ask you one question. If you answer me, I will tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

21:25 John's baptism--where did it come from? Was it from heaven, or from men?" They discussed it among themselves and said, "If we say, 'From heaven,' he will ask, 'Then why didn't you believe him?'

21:26 But if we say, 'From men'--we are afraid of the people, for they all hold that John was a prophet."

21:27 So they answered Jesus, "We don't know." Then he said, "Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.

21:28 "What do you think? There was a man who had two sons. He went to the first and said, 'Son, go and work today in the vineyard.'

21:29 "'I will not,' he answered, but later he changed his mind and went.

21:30 "Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. He answered, 'I will, sir,' but he did not go.

21:31 "Which of the two did what his father wanted?" "The first," they answered. Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you.

21:32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

1:1 우스 땅에 욥이라 불리는 사람이 있었는데 그 사람은 온전하고 정직하여 하나님을 경외하며 악에서 떠난 자더라  

1:2 그에게 아들 일곱과 딸 셋이 태어나니라  

1:3 그의 소유물은 양이 칠천 마리요 낙타가 삼천 마리요 소가 오백 겨리요 암나귀가 오백 마리이며 종도 많이 있었으니 이 사람은 동방 사람 중에 가장 훌륭한 자라  

1:4 그의 아들들이 자기 생일에 각각 자기의 집에서 잔치를 베풀고 그의 누이 세 명도 청하여 함께 먹고 마시더라  

1:5 그들이 차례대로 잔치를 끝내면 욥이 그들을 불러다가 성결하게 하되 아침에 일어나서 그들의 명수대로 번제를 드렸으니 이는 욥이 말하기를 혹시 내 아들들이 죄를 범하여 마음으로 하나님을 욕되게 하였을까 함이라 욥의 행위가 항상 이러하였더라  

1:6 하루는 하나님의 아들들이 와서 여호와 앞에 섰고 사탄도 그들 가운데에 온지라  

1:7 여호와께서 사탄에게 이르시되 네가 어디서 왔느냐 사탄이 여호와께 대답하여 이르되 땅을 두루 돌아 여기저기 다녀왔나이다  

1:8 여호와께서 사탄에게 이르시되 네가 내 종 욥을 주의하여 보았느냐 그와 같이 온전하고 정직하여 하나님을 경외하며 악에서 떠난 자는 세상에 없느니라  

1:9 사탄이 여호와께 대답하여 이르되 욥이 어찌 까닭 없이 하나님을 경외하리이까  

1:10 주께서 그와 그의 집과 그의 모든 소유물을 울타리로 두르심 때문이 아니니이까 주께서 그의 손으로 하는 바를 복되게 하사 그의 소유물이 땅에 넘치게 하셨음이니이다  

1:11 이제 주의 손을 펴서 그의 모든 소유물을 치소서 그리하시면 틀림없이 주를 향하여 욕하지 않겠나이까  

1:12 여호와께서 사탄에게 이르시되 내가 그의 소유물을 다 네 손에 맡기노라 다만 그의 몸에는 네 손을 대지 말지니라 사탄이 곧 여호와 앞에서 물러가니라  

1:13 하루는 욥의 자녀들이 그 맏아들의 집에서 음식을 먹으며 포도주를 마실 때에  

1:14 사환이 욥에게 와서 아뢰되 소는 밭을 갈고 나귀는 그 곁에서 풀을 먹는데  

1:15 스바 사람이 갑자기 이르러 그것들을 빼앗고 칼로 종들을 죽였나이다 나만 홀로 피하였으므로 주인께 아뢰러 왔나이다  

1:16 그가 아직 말하는 동안에 또 한 사람이 와서 아뢰되 하나님의 불이 하늘에서 떨어져서 양과 종들을 살라 버렸나이다 나만 홀로 피하였으므로 주인께 아뢰러 왔나이다  

1:17 그가 아직 말하는 동안에 또 한 사람이 와서 아뢰되 갈대아 사람이 세 무리를 지어 갑자기 낙타에게 달려들어 그것을 빼앗으며 칼로 종들을 죽였나이다 나만 홀로 피하였으므로 주인께 아뢰러 왔나이다  

1:18 그가 아직 말하는 동안에 또 한 사람이 와서 아뢰되 주인의 자녀들이 그들의 맏아들의 집에서 음식을 먹으며 포도주를 마시는데  

1:19 거친 들에서 큰 바람이 와서 집 네 모퉁이를 치매 그 청년들 위에 무너지므로 그들이 죽었나이다 나만 홀로 피하였으므로 주인께 아뢰러 왔나이다 한지라  

1:20 욥이 일어나 겉옷을 찢고 머리털을 밀고 땅에 엎드려 예배하며  

1:21 이르되 내가 모태에서 알몸으로 나왔사온즉 또한 알몸이 그리로 돌아가올지라 주신 이도 여호와시요 거두신 이도 여호와시오니 여호와의 이름이 찬송을 받으실지니이다 하고  

1:22 이 모든 일에 욥이 범죄하지 아니하고 하나님을 향하여 원망하지 아니하니라 

1:1 In the land of Uz there lived a man whose name was Job. This man was blameless and upright; he feared God and shunned evil.

1:2 He had seven sons and three daughters,

1:3 and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen and five hundred donkeys, and had a large number of servants. He was the greatest man among all the people of the East.

1:4 His sons used to take turns holding feasts in their homes, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them.

1:5 When a period of feasting had run its course, Job would send and have them purified. Early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them, thinking, "Perhaps my children have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." This was Job's regular custom.

1:6 One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them.

1:7 The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it."

1:8 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil."

1:9 "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied.

1:10 "Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land.

1:11 But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face."

1:12 The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger." Then Satan went out from the presence of the LORD.

1:13 One day when Job's sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house,

1:14 a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were grazing nearby,

1:15 and the Sabeans attacked and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"

1:16 While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The fire of God fell from the sky and burned up the sheep and the servants, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"

1:17 While he was still speaking, another messenger came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three raiding parties and swept down on your camels and carried them off. They put the servants to the sword, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"

1:18 While he was still speaking, yet another messenger came and said, "Your sons and daughters were feasting and drinking wine at the oldest brother's house,

1:19 when suddenly a mighty wind swept in from the desert and struck the four corners of the house. It collapsed on them and they are dead, and I am the only one who has escaped to tell you!"

1:20 At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship

1:21 and said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised."

1:22 In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing. 

10:15 또한 성령이 우리에게 증언하시되  

10:16 주께서 이르시되 그 날 후로는 그들과 맺을 언약이 이것이라 하시고 내 법을 그들의 마음에 두고 그들의 생각에 기록하리라 하신 후에  

10:17 또 그들의 죄와 그들의 불법을 내가 다시 기억하지 아니하리라 하셨으니  

10:18 이것들을 사하셨은즉 다시 죄를 위하여 제사 드릴 것이 없느니라  

10:19 그러므로 형제들아 우리가 예수의 피를 힘입어 성소에 들어갈 담력을 얻었나니  

10:20 그 길은 우리를 위하여 휘장 가운데로 열어 놓으신 새로운 살 길이요 휘장은 곧 그의 육체니라  

10:21 또 하나님의 집 다스리는 큰 제사장이 계시매  

10:22 우리가 마음에 뿌림을 받아 악한 양심으로부터 벗어나고 몸은 맑은 물로 씻음을 받았으니 참 마음과 온전한 믿음으로 하나님께 나아가자  

10:23 또 약속하신 이는 미쁘시니 우리가 믿는 도리의 소망을 움직이지 말며 굳게 잡고  

10:24 서로 돌아보아 사랑과 선행을 격려하며  

10:25 모이기를 폐하는 어떤 사람들의 습관과 같이 하지 말고 오직 권하여 그 날이 가까움을 볼수록 더욱 그리하자  

10:26 우리가 진리를 아는 지식을 받은 후 짐짓 죄를 범한즉 다시 속죄하는 제사가 없고  

10:27 오직 무서운 마음으로 심판을 기다리는 것과 대적하는 자를 태울 맹렬한 불만 있으리라  

10:28 모세의 법을 폐한 자도 두세 증인으로 말미암아 불쌍히 여김을 받지 못하고 죽었거든  

10:29 하물며 하나님의 아들을 짓밟고 자기를 거룩하게 한 언약의 피를 부정한 것으로 여기고 은혜의 성령을 욕되게 하는 자가 당연히 받을 형벌은 얼마나 더 무겁겠느냐 너희는 생각하라  

10:30 원수 갚는 것이 내게 있으니 내가 갚으리라 하시고 또 다시 주께서 그의 백성을 심판하리라 말씀하신 것을 우리가 아노니  

10:31 살아 계신 하나님의 손에 빠져 들어가는 것이 무서울진저  

10:32 전날에 너희가 빛을 받은 후에 고난의 큰 싸움을 견디어 낸 것을 생각하라  

10:33 혹은 비방과 환난으로써 사람에게 구경거리가 되고 혹은 이런 형편에 있는 자들과 사귀는 자가 되었으니  

10:34 너희가 갇힌 자를 동정하고 너희 소유를 빼앗기는 것도 기쁘게 당한 것은 더 낫고 영구한 소유가 있는 줄 앎이라  

10:35 그러므로 너희 담대함을 버리지 말라 이것이 큰 상을 얻게 하느니라  

10:36 너희에게 인내가 필요함은 너희가 하나님의 뜻을 행한 후에 약속하신 것을 받기 위함이라  

10:37 잠시 잠깐 후면 오실 이가 오시리니 지체하지 아니하시리라  

10:38 나의 의인은 믿음으로 말미암아 살리라 또한 뒤로 물러가면 내 마음이 그를 기뻐하지 아니하리라 하셨느니라  

10:39 우리는 뒤로 물러가 멸망할 자가 아니요 오직 영혼을 구원함에 이르는 믿음을 가진 자니라

10:15 The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:

10:16 "This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds."

10:17 Then he adds: "Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more."

10:18 And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.

10:19 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,

10:20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body,

10:21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God,

10:22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

10:23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.

10:24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

10:25 Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

10:26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left,

10:27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

10:28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.

10:29 How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace?

10:30 For we know him who said, "It is mine to avenge; I will repay," and again, "The Lord will judge his people."

10:31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

10:32 Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you stood your ground in a great contest in the face of suffering.

10:33 Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated.

10:34 You sympathized with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions.

10:35 So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

10:36 You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.

10:37 For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay.

10:38 But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him."

10:39 But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved. 

1. 말씀 = 고후7:1~16

7:1 그런즉 사랑하는 자들아 이 약속을 가진 우리는 하나님을 두려워하는 가운데서 거룩함을 온전히 이루어 육과 영의 온갖 더러운 것에서 자신을 깨끗하게 하자  

7:2 마음으로 우리를 영접하라 우리는 아무에게도 불의를 행하지 않고 아무에게도 해롭게 하지 않고 아무에게서도 속여 빼앗은 일이 없노라  

7:3 내가 이 말을 하는 것은 너희를 정죄하려고 하는 것이 아니라 내가 이전에 말하였거니와 너희가 우리 마음에 있어 함께 죽고 함께 살게 하고자 함이라  

7:4 나는 너희를 향하여 담대한 것도 많고 너희를 위하여 자랑하는 것도 많으니 내가 우리의 모든 환난 가운데서도 위로가 가득하고 기쁨이 넘치는도다  

7:5 우리가 마게도냐에 이르렀을 때에도 우리 육체가 편하지 못하였고 사방으로 환난을 당하여 밖으로는 다툼이요 안으로는 두려움이었노라  

7:6 그러나 낙심한 자들을 위로하시는 하나님이 디도가 옴으로 우리를 위로하셨으니  

7:7 그가 온 것뿐 아니요 오직 그가 너희에게서 받은 그 위로로 위로하고 너희의 사모함과 애통함과 나를 위하여 열심 있는 것을 우리에게 보고함으로 나를 더욱 기쁘게 하였느니라  

7:8 그러므로 내가 편지로 너희를 근심하게 한 것을 후회하였으나 지금은 후회하지 아니함은 그 편지가 너희로 잠시만 근심하게 한 줄을 앎이라  

7:9 내가 지금 기뻐함은 너희로 근심하게 한 까닭이 아니요 도리어 너희가 근심함으로 회개함에 이른 까닭이라 너희가 하나님의 뜻대로 근심하게 된 것은 우리에게서 아무 해도 받지 않게 하려 함이라  

7:10 하나님의 뜻대로 하는 근심은 후회할 것이 없는 구원에 이르게 하는 회개를 이루는 것이요 세상 근심은 사망을 이루는 것이니라  

7:11 보라 하나님의 뜻대로 하게 된 이 근심이 너희로 얼마나 간절하게 하며 얼마나 변증하게 하며 얼마나 분하게 하며 얼마나 두렵게 하며 얼마나 사모하게 하며 얼마나 열심 있게 하며 얼마나 벌하게 하였는가 너희가 그 일에 대하여 일체 너희 자신의 깨끗함을 나타내었느니라  

7:12 그런즉 내가 너희에게 쓴 것은 그 불의를 행한 자를 위한 것도 아니요 그 불의를 당한 자를 위한 것도 아니요 오직 우리를 위한 너희의 간절함이 하나님 앞에서 너희에게 나타나게 하려 함이로라  

7:13 이로 말미암아 우리가 위로를 받았고 우리가 받은 위로 위에 디도의 기쁨으로 우리가 더욱 많이 기뻐함은 그의 마음이 너희 무리로 말미암아 안심함을 얻었음이라  

7:14 내가 그에게 너희를 위하여 자랑한 것이 있더라도 부끄럽지 아니하니 우리가 너희에게 이른 말이 다 참된 것 같이 디도 앞에서 우리가 자랑한 것도 참되게 되었도다  

7:15 그가 너희 모든 사람들이 두려움과 떪으로 자기를 영접하여 순종한 것을 생각하고 너희를 향하여 그의 심정이 더욱 깊었으니  

7:16 내가 범사에 너희를 신뢰하게 된 것을 기뻐하노라 

2. NIV

7:1 Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

7:2 Make room for us in your hearts. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have exploited no one.

7:3 I do not say this to condemn you; I have said before that you have such a place in our hearts that we would live or die with you.

7:4 I have great confidence in you; I take great pride in you. I am greatly encouraged; in all our troubles my joy knows no bounds.

7:5 For when we came into Macedonia, this body of ours had no rest, but we were harassed at every turn--conflicts on the outside, fears within.

7:6 But God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus,

7:7 and not only by his coming but also by the comfort you had given him. He told us about your longing for me, your deep sorrow, your ardent concern for me, so that my joy was greater than ever.

7:8 Even if I caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it. Though I did regret it--I see that my letter hurt you, but only for a little while--

7:9 yet now I am happy, not because you were made sorry, but because your sorrow led you to repentance. For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us.

7:10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

7:11 See what this godly sorrow has produced in you: what earnestness, what eagerness to clear yourselves, what indignation, what alarm, what longing, what concern, what readiness to see justice done. At every point you have proved yourselves to be innocent in this matter.

7:12 So even though I wrote to you, it was not on account of the one who did the wrong or of the injured party, but rather that before God you could see for yourselves how devoted to us you are.

7:13 By all this we are encouraged. In addition to our own encouragement, we were especially delighted to see how happy Titus was, because his spirit has been refreshed by all of you.

7:14 I had boasted to him about you, and you have not embarrassed me. But just as everything we said to you was true, so our boasting about you to Titus has proved to be true as well.

7:15 And his affection for you is all the greater when he remembers that you were all obedient, receiving him with fear and trembling.

7:16 I am glad I can have complete confidence in you. 

요일5:1~21

5:1 예수께서 그리스도이심을 믿는 자마다 하나님께로부터 난 자니 또한 낳으신 이를 사랑하는 자마다 그에게서 난 자를 사랑하느니라  

5:2 우리가 하나님을 사랑하고 그의 계명들을 지킬 때에 이로써 우리가 하나님의 자녀를 사랑하는 줄을 아느니라  

5:3 하나님을 사랑하는 것은 이것이니 우리가 그의 계명들을 지키는 것이라 그의 계명들은 무거운 것이 아니로다  

5:4 무릇 하나님께로부터 난 자마다 세상을 이기느니라 세상을 이기는 승리는 이것이니 우리의 믿음이니라  

5:5 예수께서 하나님의 아들이심을 믿는 자가 아니면 세상을 이기는 자가 누구냐  

5:6 이는 물과 피로 임하신 이시니 곧 예수 그리스도시라 물로만 아니요 물과 피로 임하셨고 증언하는 이는 성령이시니 성령은 진리니라  

5:7 증언하는 이가 셋이니  

5:8 성령과 물과 피라 또한 이 셋은 합하여 하나이니라  

5:9 만일 우리가 사람들의 증언을 받을진대 하나님의 증거는 더욱 크도다 하나님의 증거는 이것이니 그의 아들에 대하여 증언하신 것이니라  

5:10 하나님의 아들을 믿는 자는 자기 안에 증거가 있고 하나님을 믿지 아니하는 자는 하나님을 거짓말하는 자로 만드나니 이는 하나님께서 그 아들에 대하여 증언하신 증거를 믿지 아니하였음이라  

5:11 또 증거는 이것이니 하나님이 우리에게 영생을 주신 것과 이 생명이 그의 아들 안에 있는 그것이니라  

5:12 아들이 있는 자에게는 생명이 있고 하나님의 아들이 없는 자에게는 생명이 없느니라 

5:13 내가 하나님의 아들의 이름을 믿는 너희에게 이것을 쓰는 것은 너희로 하여금 너희에게 영생이 있음을 알게 하려 함이라  

5:14 그를 향하여 우리가 가진 바 담대함이 이것이니 그의 뜻대로 무엇을 구하면 들으심이라

2. NIV

5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.

5:2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands.

5:3 This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome,

5:4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

5:5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

5:6 This is the one who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

5:7 For there are three that testify:

5:8 the Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

5:9 We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son.

5:10 Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.

5:11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

5:12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

5:13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

5:14 This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

5:15 And if we know that he hears us--whatever we ask--we know that we have what we asked of him.

5:16 If anyone sees his brother commit a sin that does not lead to death, he should pray and God will give him life. I refer to those whose sin does not lead to death. There is a sin that leads to death. I am not saying that he should pray about that.

5:17 All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death.

5:18 We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.

5:19 We know that we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control of the evil one.

5:20 We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true--even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

5:21 Dear children, keep yourselves from idols. 

마8:1~17

8:1 예수께서 산에서 내려 오시니 수많은 무리가 따르니라  

8:2 한 나병환자가 나아와 절하며 이르되 주여 원하시면 저를 깨끗하게 하실 수 있나이다 하거늘  

8:3 예수께서 손을 내밀어 그에게 대시며 이르시되 내가 원하노니 깨끗함을 받으라 하시니 즉시 그의 나병이 깨끗하여진지라  

8:4 예수께서 이르시되 삼가 아무에게도 이르지 말고 다만 가서 제사장에게 네 몸을 보이고 모세가 명한 예물을 드려 그들에게 입증하라 하시니라

8:4 Then Jesus said to him, "See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."

8:5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.

8:7 Jesus said to him, "I will go and heal him."

8:8 The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.

8:9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."

8:10 When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, "I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.

8:11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

8:12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."

8:13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! It will be done just as you believed it would." And his servant was healed at that very hour.

8:14 When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.

8:15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.

8:16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.

8:17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases."

8:1 Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, 

so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land 

that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers.

8:2 Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, 

to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, 

whether or not you would keep his commands.

8:3 He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, 

which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread 

alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.

8:4 Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years.

8:5 Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, 

so the LORD your God disciplines you.

8:6 Observe the commands of the LORD your God, 

walking in his ways and revering him.

8:7 For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land--a land with streams and pools of water, 

with springs flowing in the valleys and hills;

8:8 a land with wheat and barley, vines and fig trees, pomegranates, 

olive oil and honey;

8:9 a land where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; 

a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.

8:10 When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land 

he has given you.

8:11 Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, 

failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees 

that I am giving you this day.

8:12 Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, 

when you build fine houses and settle down,

8:13 and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and 

gold increase and all you have is multiplied,

8:14 then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, 

who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

8:15 He led you through the vast and dreadful desert, that thirsty and waterless land, 

with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock.

8:16 He gave you manna to eat in the desert, something your fathers had never known, 

to humble and to test you so that in the end it might go well with you.

8:17 You may say to yourself, 

"My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me."

8:18 But remember the LORD your God, 

for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, 

and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.

8:19 If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods and worship 

and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed.

8:20 Like the nations the LORD destroyed before you, 

so you will be destroyed for not obeying the LORD your God.

2:2 And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others.

2:3 Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

2:4 No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs--he wants to please his commanding officer.

2:5 Similarly, if anyone competes as an athlete, he does not receive the victor's crown unless he competes according to the rules.

2:6 The hardworking farmer should be the first to receive a share of the crops.

2:7 Reflect on what I am saying, for the Lord will give you insight into all this.

2:8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel,

2:9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God's word is not chained.

2:10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

2:11 Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him;

2:12 if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us;

2:13 if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

2:14 Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen.

2:15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

2:16 Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it will become more and more ungodly.

2:17 Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus,

2:18 who have wandered away from the truth. They say that the resurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some.

2:19 Nevertheless, God's solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and, "Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness."

2:20 In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble.

2:21 If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, made holy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

1. 배경

기록자가 자신을 '하나님과 주 예수 그리스도의 종 야고보'라고 밝히고 있다. 그런데, 신약성경에는 야고보라는 이름을 가진사람이 적어도 4명이 나온다. 먼저, 세베대의 아들이자 요한의 형제인 야고보가 있고(마 10:2, 막 3:17, 눅 6:14), 알패오의 아들인 사도 야고보(마 10:3, 막 3:18, 행 1:13), 그리고 사도 유다의 아버지 야고보가 있다(눅6:16, 행 1:13). 또한 주님의 동생 야고보(마 13:55, 갈 1:19)도 있다. 본서의 기록자는 위 네 사람 중 한 사람인데, 여러 가지 정황으로보아 주님의 동생 야고보가 가장 유력하다.

한편 본서의 수신자는 '흩어져 있는 열 두 지파’(1:1)이다. 그러나 문제는 '흩어져 있는 열 두 지파'가 누구냐 하는 점이다. 본서가 유대인의 색채가 짙은 것으로 보아 수신자는 팔레스타인 밖에 흩어져 사는 유대인 그리스도인이라고 볼 수 있다. 회당(2:2)과 교회(5:14)를 함께 언급하는 것이나 맹세하지 말라는 경고(5:12)와 이방인들에게 나타나는 우상숭배와 윤리적 부도덕성을 별로 경계하지 않는 점 등은 그 대상이 유대인 그리스도인이었음을 보여주는 좋은 증거라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 신약성경에서 '열 두 지파'는 단순히 유대인 그리스도인에게만 국한되는 것이 아니라 '새 이스라엘'로서의 모든 그리스도인에게 적용되고 있음에 주목할 필요가 있다(마 19:28).

그러므로 야고보서의 수신자인 '흩어져 있는 열두 지파'란 유대인 그리스도인만을 말하는 것이 아니라 모든 그리스도인, 즉 '참 이스라엘'혹은 '영적 이스라엘'이요, '이 땅에서 외국인과 나그네'(히 11:13)인 모든 하늘나라 백성인 '모든 그리스도인'을 말한다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 사실 본서의 내용은 유대인 그리스도인 뿐만 아니라 모든 그리스도인들이 받을 수 있는 내용으로 되어 있다. 그리고 본서의 기록목적은 그 내용을 통해 볼 때, 당시 수신자들에게 그리스도인으로서의 올바른 신앙생활을 가르쳐주기 위한 것이다. 수신자들은 핍박을 받고 있으면서 부에 대한 잘못된 이해(1:9~11)와 그들을 향한 교회의 차별적 행위(2:1~13), 말을 통한 실수(3:1~12), 공동체 안에서의 세상적 지혜(3:14~16, 4:1~6)를 통한 불협화음, 헛된 맹세(5:12)등으로 인하여 신앙의 바른 모습을 보이지 못하였다. 그래서 야고보는 가르침을 통하여 진정한 믿음생활을 하게 하기 위하여 본서를 기록했다.

2. 내용

본서는 ① 믿음의 시련(1:1~18) ② 믿음의 실천사항(1:19~5:6) ③ 믿음의 승리(5:7~20) 등과 같이 크게 세 부분으로 나눌 수 있는데, 그 내용은 다음과 같다.

1) 믿음의 시련(1:1~18)
 야고보는 여러 지역에 흩어져 사는 유대인 성도들에게 문안한 후 믿음의 시련과 시험에 대해서 논한다. 인생을 살면서 여러가지 시험을 만나게 되지만 그 모든 것들은 성도들의 신앙의 성숙을 위한 도구가 되기 때문에 오히려 기쁘게 여기라고 말한다. 그리고 그 모든 시험을 통과할 수 있는 지혜를 하나님께 믿음으로 구하고 시험을 인내함으로 하나님께서 약속하신 생명의 면류관을 받으라고 권면한다. 특히 우리가 유혹에 넘어가는 것은 죄를 낳고 사망에 이르게 하는 욕심에 끌려 미혹되는 것이니 그것을 주의하라고 권면한다.

2) 믿음의 실천사항(1:19~5:6)
야고보는 믿음의 실천사항을 기록하고 있다. ① 말씀에 순종해야 한다(1:19~27). 말씀을 듣기만 하고 행하지 않으면 그것은 자신을 속이는 자가 되는 것이다. 하지만 말씀을 듣고 실행하는 자는 하나님께서 복을 주신다. ② 성도를 빈부로 차별하지 말아야 한다(2:1~13). 그 이유는 성도는 그리스도 안에서 같은 믿음을 소유한 자이고(2:1), 동일한 하나님 나라의 유업 받을 자이며(2:5), 하나님이 성도 간에 차별을 금하고 형제 사랑을 명하셨기 때문이다(2:8). ③ 믿음은 행함으로 증명해야 한다(2:14~26). 야고보는 행함이 없는 믿음은 그 자체가 죽은 믿음이라고 강조하면서 행함있는 믿음을 가진 대표적인 사람으로 아브라함과 라합을 예로 든다. 아브라함은 하나님의 명령을 듣고 자신의 아들 이삭을 번제로 바치는 행동을 통하여 의롭다함을 얻었고, 기생 라합도 정탐꾼들을 접대하고 다른 길로 나가게 함으로 의롭다함을 얻었다. ④ 혀를 잘 다스려야 한다(3:1~12). 혀의 무절제한 사용은 사람을 죽이는 독이 된다. 자신의 파멸은 물론 교회 공동체 안에서 심각한 분란을 일으키게 된다. 따라서 성도는 혀의 사용을 절제해야 한다. 특히 한 입으로 하나님을 찬송하기도 하고 형제를 저주하는 것이 결코 하나님 앞에 합당한 일이 아님을 유의해야 한다. ⑤ 위로부터 난 지혜를 추구해야 한다(3:13~18). 시기와 다툼은 세상적인 것이지 결코 위로부터 주어지는 것이 아니다. 위로부터 난 지혜는 성결, 화평, 관용, 양순, 긍휼, 선한 열매, 편벽과 거짓이 없으며, 특히 화평을 심어 의의 열매를 거둔다. ⑥ 겸손해야 한다(4:1~12). 성도는 마땅히 다툼과 싸움을 일으키는 정욕과 교만을 버리고 하나님과 사람 앞에 겸손해야 한다. 그럴 때 하나님께서 은혜를 주시고 높여주신다. ⑦ 하나님을 의지해야 한다(4:13~5:6). 성도는 마땅히 매사에 주의 뜻을 따라 살아야 한다. 하지만 성도가 세속적이고 현세적인 유익을 따라 살아가며 허탄한 자랑을 하는 것은 악한 것이요 하나님 앞에 죄이다(4:13~17). 또한 성도는 추수한 품꾼의 노동력을 갈취하여 불의한 재물을 쌓고, 사치와 쾌락에 빠져서는 안된다. 그런 자들은 반드시 하나님의 공의로운 심판을 받게 될 것이다.

3) 믿음의 승리(5:7~20)
불의한 부자들로 인해 궁핍에 처하고 고난을 당하는 자들에 대한 위로가 나타난다. 즉 야고보는 농부가 열매를 기다리듯이(5:7~9), 암울한 현실 속에서도 소망을 잃지 않고 고난을 참았던 선지자들처럼 (5:10), 그리고 극한 고난을 통과했던 욥(5:11)을 생각하면서 주님의 재림을 간절히 소망하는 가운데 현재의 고난을 인내하며 승리할 것을 간곡하게 당부한다(3:7~11). 이어서 그는 기도의 중요성을 강조한다(5:13~18). 고난을 극복하기 위한 기도, 그리고 병든 자의 치료를 위하여 믿음으로 합심해서 기도할 것을 권면한다. 특히 의인의 기도는 역사하는 힘이 많다는 것을 엘리야를 예로 들어 설명한다. 마지막으로 야고보 사도는 진리에서 떠난 자를 돌이키는 자가 참으로 복된 자임을 강조하며 글을 맺는다(5:19~20).

3. 메시지

본서의 기록목적은 1차적으로는 입으로만 신앙이 있다고 하면서 생활에는 아무런 열매를 맺지 못하는 성도들에게 참된 신앙(2:14~26)이 무엇인지를 가르쳐 주기 위함이요, 2차적으로는 시험 가운데 처한 성도들에게 연단과 인내의 신앙(5:7~11)을 가르쳐 주기 위함이다. 특히 본서의 논지는 '살아있는 믿음(온전한 믿음은 행함이 있는 믿음이다(약 2:17, 26의 대우명제)'라고 할 수 있다. 그러면 행함이 있는 믿음은 무엇인가? 그것은 추상적인 것이 아니라 하나님과 나와 다른 사람의 관계 속에서 구체적으로 나타나는 믿음이다.

첫째, 그것은 하나님과의 관계(對神關係)에 있어서는 하나님을 찬송하고(3:10), 하나님의 말씀에 철저하게 순종하는 것인데, 그 대표적인 예로 아브라함(2:1~24)과 라합(2:25)을 들고 있다.

둘째, 그것은 내 자신과의 관계(對我關係)에 있어서는 시험(고난)에 대해 인내(예 : 욥)하고 기도(예 : 엘리야)하며 (1:2~6, 5:7~18), 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 않는 것이다(1:27).

셋째, 그것은 다른 사람과의 관계(對人關係)에 있어서는 언어생활과 경제생활 두 가지로 나타난다. 우선 언어생활에서는 하나님을 찬송하는 입술로 하나님의 형상대로 지음 받은 사람을 저주하지 않고 축복하되(3:9~10) 참된 진리를 전하므로 그들을 주님께로 돌아서게 하는 것이다(5:19). 또한 경제생활에서는 부를 자랑하지 않고(1:10, 4:16), 나누는 삶을 살아가는 것이다(1:27).

4. 적용

 요즈음 교회에 대한 비판의 소리가 점점 거세게 들려지고 있다. 이것은 오늘날 믿음을 가졌다고 말하는 교인들은 많지만 그들의 믿음이 삶 속에서 선행으로 열매 맺지 못하기 때문에 오는 비판이다. 이것은 한 마디로 신앙과 삶을 이원론적인 것으로 오해한 결과라고 할 수 있다. 그러나 신앙과 삶은 서로 별개의 것이 아니라 하나이다. 그래서 '신앙생활' 이라는 말을 사용하는 것이다. 그러므로 참된 신앙이란 머리와 입에 머물러 있는 것이 아니라 손과 발을 통해 실천되는 믿음이라고 할 수 있다. 그러면 참된 신앙생활의 모습은 과연 무엇일까? 그것은 (약 1:27)의 말씀처럼 하나님 사랑과 이웃사랑을 실천하는 것이다. “하나님 아버지 앞에서 정결하고 더러움이 없는 경건은 곧 고아와 과부를 그환난 중에 돌아보고(선행=이웃사랑), 또 자기를 지켜 세속에 물들지 아니하는 이것이니라(경건=하나님 사랑)." (약 1:27)

13:1 내가 사람의 방언과 천사의 말을 할지라도 사랑이 없으면 소리 나는 구리와 울리는 꽹과리가 되고  

13:2 내가 예언하는 능력이 있어 모든 비밀과 모든 지식을 알고 또 산을 옮길 만한 모든 믿음이 있을지라도 사랑이 없으면 내가 아무 것도 아니요  

13:3 내가 내게 있는 모든 것으로 구제하고 또 내 몸을 불사르게 내줄지라도 사랑이 없으면 내게 아무 유익이 없느니라 

13:4 사랑은 오래 참고 사랑은 온유하며 시기하지 아니하며 사랑은 자랑하지 아니하며 교만하지 아니하며  

13:5 무례히 행하지 아니하며 자기의 유익을 구하지 아니하며 성내지 아니하며 악한 것을 생각하지 아니하며  

13:6 불의를 기뻐하지 아니하며 진리와 함께 기뻐하고  

13:7 모든 것을 참으며 모든 것을 믿으며 모든 것을 바라며 모든 것을 견디느니라  

13:8 사랑은 언제까지나 떨어지지 아니하되 예언도 폐하고 방언도 그치고 지식도 폐하리라  

13:9 우리는 부분적으로 알고 부분적으로 예언하니  

13:10 온전한 것이 올 때에는 부분적으로 하던 것이 폐하리라  

13:11 내가 어렸을 때에는 말하는 것이 어린 아이와 같고 깨닫는 것이 어린 아이와 같고 생각하는 것이 어린 아이와 같다가 장성한 사람이 되어서는 어린 아이의 일을 버렸노라  

13:12 우리가 지금은 거울로 보는 것 같이 희미하나 그 때에는 얼굴과 얼굴을 대하여 볼 것이요 지금은 내가 부분적으로 아나 그 때에는 주께서 나를 아신 것 같이 내가 온전히 알리라  

13:13 그런즉 믿음, 소망, 사랑, 이 세 가지는 항상 있을 것인데 그 중의 제일은 사랑이라

13:1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, 

I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.

13:2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, 

and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.

13:3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, 

but have not love, I gain nothing.

13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

13:5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, 

it keeps no record of wrongs.

13:6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

But where there are prophecies, they will cease; 

where there are tongues, they will be stilled;

13:11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

13:12 Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.

13:13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
