26:1 When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he said to his disciples,

26:2 "As you know, the Passover is two days away -

and the Son of Man will be handed over to be crucified."

26:3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest

        , whose name was Caiaphas,

26:4 and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him.

26:5 "But not during the Feast," they said, "or there may be a riot among the people."

26:6 While Jesus was in Bethany in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper,

26:7 a woman came to him with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume,

which she poured on his head as he was reclining at the table.

26:8 When the disciples saw this, they were indignant. "Why this waste?" they asked.

26:9 "This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor."

26:10 Aware of this, Jesus said to them, "Why are you bothering this woman?

She has done a beautiful thing to me.

26:11 The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.

26:12 When she poured this perfume on my body, she did it to prepare me for burial.

26:13 I tell you the truth, wherever this gospel is preached throughout the world,

what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."

26:14 Then one of the Twelve--the one called Judas Iscariot--went to the chief priests

26:15 and asked, "What are you willing to give me if I hand him over to you?"

So they counted out for him thirty silver coins.

26:16 From then on Judas watched for an opportunity to hand him over.

11:1 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech.

11:2 As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there.

11:3 They said to each other, "Come, let's make bricks and bake them thoroughly."

They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar.

11:4 Then they said, "Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens,

so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole

        earth."

11:5 But the LORD came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building.

11:6 The LORD said, "If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this,

then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.

11:7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other."

11:8 So the LORD scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city.

11:9 That is why it was called Babel-because there the LORD confused the language of the whole

world. From there the LORD scattered them over the face of the whole earth.

15:42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead.

         The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable;

15:43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power;

15:44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

15:45 So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being";

the last Adam, a life-giving spirit.

15:46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual.

15:47 The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven.

15:48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth;

and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven.

15:49 And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man,

so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.

15:50 I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God,

nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

15:51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed--

15:52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound,

the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed.

15:53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable,

         and the mortal with immortality.

15:54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable,

and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true:

"Death has been swallowed up in victory."

15:55 "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"

15:56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

15:57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

15:58 Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you.

Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,

because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

3:1 Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly--mere infants in Christ.

3:2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready.

3:3 You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men?

3:4 For when one says, "I follow Paul," and another, "I follow Apollos," are you not mere men?

3:5 What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe--as the Lord has assigned to each his task.

3:6 I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.

3:7 So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.

3:8 The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.

3:9 For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.

3:10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds.

3:11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

3:12 If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw,

3:13 his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work.

3:14 If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward.

3:15 If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames.

3:16 Don't you know that you yourselves are God's temple and that God's Spirit lives in you?

3:17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God's temple is sacred, and you are that temple.

3:18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a "fool" so that he may become wise.

3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God's sight. As it is written: "He catches the wise in their craftiness";

3:20 and again, "The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile."

3:21 So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours,

3:22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future--all are yours,

3:23 and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.

43:1 But now, this is what the LORD says-he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you,

O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

43:2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers,

       they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;

the flames will not set you ablaze.

43:3 For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt for your

ransom, Cush and Seba in your stead.

43:4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give men in

exchange for you, and people in exchange for your life.

43:5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you

       from the west.

43:6 I will say to the north, 'Give them up!' and to the south, 'Do not hold them back.' Bring my

sons from afar and my daughters from the ends of the earth--

43:7 everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."

43:8 Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf.

43:9 All the nations gather together and the peoples assemble. Which of them foretold this and

proclaimed to us the former things? Let them bring in their witnesses to prove they were

right, so that others may hear and say, "It is true."

43:10 "You are my witnesses," declares the LORD, "and my servant whom I have chosen, so that

you may know and believe me and qnderstand that I am he. Before me no god was formed,

nor will there be one after me.

43:11 I, even I, am the LORD, and apart from me there is no savior.

43:12 I have revealed and saved and proclaimed--, and not some foreign god among you. You are

my witnesses," declares the LORD, "that I am God.

43:13 Yes, and from ancient days I am he. No one can deliver out of my hand. When I act, who

         can reverse it?"

11:1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to

him, "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples."

11:2 He said to them, "When you pray, say: "'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.

11:3 Give us each day our daily bread.

11:4 Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive everyone who sins against us. And lead us not into

       temptation.'"

11:5 Then he said to them, "Suppose one of you has a friend, and he goes to him at midnight and

says, 'Friend, lend me three loaves of bread,

11:6 because a friend of mine on a journey has come to me, and I have nothing to set before him.'

11:7 "Then the one inside answers, 'Don't bother me. The door is already locked, and my children

are with me in bed. I can't get up and give you anything.'

11:8 I tell you, though he will not get up and give him the bread because he is his friend, yet

because of the man's boldness he will get up and give him as much as he needs.

11:9 "So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door

        will be opened to you.

11:10 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will

         be opened.

11:11 "Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead?

11:12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?

11:13 If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much

more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

18:16 When the men got up to leave, they looked down toward Sodom, and Abraham walked

along with them to see them on their way.

18:17 Then the LORD said, "Shall I hide from Abraham what I am about to do?

18:18 Abraham will surely become a great and powerful nation, and all nations on earth will be

         blessed through him.

18:19 For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him

to keep the way of the LORD by doing what is right and just, so that the LORD will bring

about for Abraham what he has promised him."

18:20 Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and their sin

         so grievous

18:21 that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached

me. If not, I will know."

18:22 The men turned away and went toward Sodom, but Abraham remained standing before

         the LORD.

18:23 Then Abraham approached him and said: "Will you sweep away the righteous with the

         wicked?

18:24 What if there are fifty righteous people in the city? Will you really sweep it away and not

spare the place for the sake of the fifty righteous people in it?

18:25 Far be it from you to do such a thing-to kill the righteous with the wicked, treating

the righteous and the wicked alike. Far be it from you! Will not the Judge of all the earth

         do right?"

18:26 The LORD said, "If I find fifty righteous people in the city of Sodom, I will spare the whole

         place for their sake."

18:27 Then Abraham spoke up again: "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord,

though I am nothing but dust and ashes,

18:28 what if the number of the righteous is five less than fifty? Will you destroy the whole city

because of five people?" "If I find forty-five there," he said, "I will not destroy it."

18:29 Once again he spoke to him, "What if only forty are found there?" He said, "For the sake of

forty, I will not do it."

18:30 Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak. What if only thirty can be

found there?" He answered, "I will not do it if I find thirty there."

18:31 Abraham said, "Now that I have been so bold as to speak to the Lord, what if only twenty

can be found there?" He said, "For the sake of twenty, I will not destroy it."

18:32 Then he said, "May the Lord not be angry, but let me speak just once more. What if only

ten can be found there?" He answered, "For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it."

18:33 When the LORD had finished speaking with Abraham, he left, and Abraham returned home

13:15 After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue rulers sent word to them, saying, "Brothers, if you have a message of encouragement for the people, please speak."

13:16 Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand and said: "Men of Israel and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me!

13:17 The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers; he made the people prosper during their stay in Egypt, with mighty power he led them out of that country,

13:18 he endured their conduct for about forty years in the desert,

13:19 he overthrew seven nations in Canaan and gave their land to his people as their inheritance.

13:20 All this took about 450 years. "After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet.

13:21 Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years.

13:22 After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: 'I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.'

13:23 "From this man's descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised.

13:24 Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel.

13:25 As John was completing his work, he said: 'Who do you think I am? I am not that one. No, but he is coming after me, whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.'

13:26 "Brothers, children of Abraham, and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent.

13:27 The people of Jerusalem and their rulers did not recognize Jesus, yet in condemning him they fulfilled the words of the prophets that are read every Sabbath.

13:28 Though they found no proper ground for a death sentence, they asked Pilate to have him executed.

13:29 When they had carried out all that was written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.

13:30 But God raised him from the dead,

13:31 and for many days he was seen by those who had traveled with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to our people.

13:32 "We tell you the good news: What God promised our fathers

13:33 he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: "'You are my Son; today I have become your Father.'

13:34 The fact that God raised him from the dead, never to decay, is stated in these words: "'I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.'

13:35 So it is stated elsewhere: "'You will not let your Holy One see decay.'

20:12 O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no power to face this vast army that is

attacking us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon you."

20:13 All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones, stood there before

         the LORD.

20:14 Then the Spirit of the LORD came upon Jahaziel son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah,

the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite and descendant of Asaph, as he stood in

         the assembly.

20:15 He said: "Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem! This is what

the LORD says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army.

For the battle is not yours, but God's.

20:16 Tomorrow march down against them. They will be climbing up by the Pass of Ziz, and

you will find them at the end of the gorge in the Desert of Jeruel.

20:17 You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions; stand firm and

          see the deliverance the LORD will give you, O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid;

do not be discouraged. Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you.'"

20:18 Jehoshaphat bowed with his face to the ground, and all the people of Judah and Jerusalem

fell down in worship before the LORD.

20:19 Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the LORD,

the God of Israel, with very loud voice.

20:20 Early in the morning they left for the Desert of Tekoa. As they set out, Jehoshaphat stood

and said, "Listen to me, Judah and people of Jerusalem! Have faith in the LORD your God

and you will be upheld; have faith in his prophets and you will be successful."

20:21 After consulting the people, Jehoshaphat appointed men to sing to the LORD and to praise

him for the splendor of his holiness as they went out at the head of the army, saying:

"Give thanks to the LORD, for his love endures forever."

20:22 As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the men of Ammon and

Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and they were defeated.

20:23 The men of Ammon and Moab rose up against the men from Mount Seir to destroy and

annihilate them. After they finished slaughtering the men from Seir, they helped to destroy

         one another.

20:24 When the men of Judah came to the place that overlooks the desert and looked toward

the vast army, they saw only dead bodies lying on the ground; no one had escaped.

20:25 So Jehoshaphat and his men went to carry off their plunder, and they found among them

a great amount of equipment and clothing and also articles of value--more than they could

take away. There was so much plunder that it took three days to collect it.

20:26 On the fourth day they assembled in the Valley of Beracah, where they praised the LORD.

This is why it is called the Valley of Beracah to this day.
