말씀선포 ㅣ 삼상17:36~54절

17:36 주의 종이 사자와 곰도 쳤은즉 살아 계시는 하나님의 군대를 모욕한 이 할례 받지 않은 블레셋 사람이리이까 그가 그 짐승의 하나와 같이 되리이다  

17:37 또 다윗이 이르되 여호와께서 나를 사자의 발톱과 곰의 발톱에서 건져내셨은즉 나를 이 블레셋 사람의 손에서도 건져내시리이다 사울이 다윗에게 이르되 가라 여호와께서 너와 함께 계시기를 원하노라  

17:38 이에 사울이 자기 군복을 다윗에게 입히고 놋 투구를 그의 머리에 씌우고 또 그에게 갑옷을 입히매  

17:39 다윗이 칼을 군복 위에 차고는 익숙하지 못하므로 시험적으로 걸어 보다가 사울에게 말하되 익숙하지 못하니 이것을 입고 가지 못하겠나이다 하고 곧 벗고  

17:40 손에 막대기를 가지고 시내에서 매끄러운 돌 다섯을 골라서 자기 목자의 제구 곧 주머니에 넣고 손에 물매를 가지고 블레셋 사람에게로 나아가니라  

17:41 블레셋 사람이 방패 든 사람을 앞세우고 다윗에게로 점점 가까이 나아가니라  

17:42 그 블레셋 사람이 둘러보다가 다윗을 보고 업신여기니 이는 그가 젊고 붉고 용모가 아름다움이라  

17:43 블레셋 사람이 다윗에게 이르되 네가 나를 개로 여기고 막대기를 가지고 내게 나아왔느냐 하고 그의 신들의 이름으로 다윗을 저주하고  

17:44 그 블레셋 사람이 또 다윗에게 이르되 내게로 오라 내가 네 살을 공중의 새들과 들짐승들에게 주리라 하는지라  

17:45 다윗이 블레셋 사람에게 이르되 너는 칼과 창과 단창으로 내게 나아 오거니와 나는 만군의 여호와의 이름 곧 네가 모욕하는 이스라엘 군대의 하나님의 이름으로 네게 나아가노라  

17:46 오늘 여호와께서 너를 내 손에 넘기시리니 내가 너를 쳐서 네 목을 베고 블레셋 군대의 시체를 오늘 공중의 새와 땅의 들짐승에게 주어 온 땅으로 이스라엘에 하나님이 계신 줄 알게 하겠고  

17:47 또 여호와의 구원하심이 칼과 창에 있지 아니함을 이 무리에게 알게 하리라 전쟁은 여호와께 속한 것인즉 그가 너희를 우리 손에 넘기시리라  

17:48 블레셋 사람이 일어나 다윗에게로 마주 가까이 올 때에 다윗이 블레셋 사람을 향하여 빨리 달리며  

17:49 손을 주머니에 넣어 돌을 가지고 물매로 던져 블레셋 사람의 이마를 치매 돌이 그의 이마에 박히니 땅에 엎드러지니라  

17:50 다윗이 이같이 물매와 돌로 블레셋 사람을 이기고 그를 쳐죽였으나 자기 손에는 칼이 없었더라  

17:51 다윗이 달려가서 블레셋 사람을 밟고 그의 칼을 그 칼 집에서 빼내어 그 칼로 그를 죽이고 그의 머리를 베니 블레셋 사람들이 자기 용사의 죽음을 보고 도망하는지라  

17:52 이스라엘과 유다 사람들이 일어나서 소리 지르며 블레셋 사람들을 쫓아 가이와 에그론 성문까지 이르렀고 블레셋 사람들의 부상자들은 사아라임 가는 길에서부터 가드와 에그론까지 엎드러졌더라  

17:53 이스라엘 자손이 블레셋 사람들을 쫓다가 돌아와서 그들의 진영을 노략하였고  

17:54 다윗은 그 블레셋 사람의 머리를 예루살렘으로 가져가고 갑주는 자기 장막에 두니라  

17:36 Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine 

will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the living God.

17:37 The LORD who delivered me from the paw of the lion and the paw of the bear 

will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." Saul said to David, "

Go, and the LORD be with you."

17:38 Then Saul dressed David in his own tunic. He put a coat of armor on him and 

a bronze helmet on his head.

17:39 David fastened on his sword over the tunic and tried walking around, 

because he was not used to them. "I cannot go in these," he said to Saul, 

"because I am not used to them." So he took them off.

17:40 Then he took his staff in his hand, chose five smooth stones from the stream, 

put them in the pouch of his shepherd's bag and, with his sling in his hand, 

approached the Philistine.

17:41 Meanwhile, the Philistine, with his shield bearer in front of him, 

kept coming closer to David.

17:42 He looked David over and saw that he was only a boy, ruddy and handsome, 

and he despised him.

17:43 He said to David, "Am I a dog, that you come at me with sticks?" 

And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.

17:44 "Come here," he said, "and I'll give your flesh to the birds of the air and 

the beasts of the field!"

17:45 David said to the Philistine, "You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, 

but I come against you in the name of the LORD Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, 

whom you have defied.

17:46 This day the LORD will hand you over to me, and I'll strike you down and cut off your head. Today I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds of the air and 

the beasts of the earth, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

17:47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; 

for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give all of you into our hands."

17:48 As the Philistine moved closer to attack him, David ran quickly toward 

the battle line to meet him.

17:49 Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and 

struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead, and 

he fell facedown on the ground.

17:50 So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; 

without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him.

17:51 David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine's sword and 

drew it from the scabbard. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword. 

When the Philistines saw that their hero was dead, they turned and ran.

17:52 Then the men of Israel and Judah surged forward with a shout and 

pursued the Philistines to the entrance of Gath and to the gates of Ekron. 

Their dead were strewn along the Shaaraim road to Gath and Ekron.

17:53 When the Israelites returned from chasing the Philistines, they plundered their camp.

17:54 David took the Philistine's head and brought it to Jerusalem, and 

he put the Philistine's weapons in his own tent.

창26:1~22절

26:1 아브라함 때에 첫 흉년이 들었더니 그 땅에 또 흉년이 들매 이삭이 그랄로 가서 블레셋 왕 아비멜렉에게 이르렀더니  

26:2 여호와께서 이삭에게 나타나 이르시되 애굽으로 내려가지 말고 내가 네게 지시하는 땅에 거주하라  

26:3 이 땅에 거류하면 내가 너와 함께 있어 네게 복을 주고 내가 이 모든 땅을 너와 네 자손에게 주리라 내가 네 아버지 아브라함에게 맹세한 것을 이루어  

26:4 네 자손을 하늘의 별과 같이 번성하게 하며 이 모든 땅을 네 자손에게 주리니 네 자손으로 말미암아 천하 만민이 복을 받으리라  

26:5 이는 아브라함이 내 말을 순종하고 내 명령과 내 계명과 내 율례와 내 법도를 지켰음이라 하시니라  

26:6 이삭이 그랄에 거주하였더니  

26:7 그 곳 사람들이 그의 아내에 대하여 물으매 그가 말하기를 그는 내 누이라 하였으니 리브가는 보기에 아리따우므로 그 곳 백성이 리브가로 말미암아 자기를 죽일까 하여 그는 내 아내라 하기를 두려워함이었더라  

26:8 이삭이 거기 오래 거주하였더니 이삭이 그 아내 리브가를 껴안은 것을 블레셋 왕 아비멜렉이 창으로 내다본지라  

26:9 이에 아비멜렉이 이삭을 불러 이르되 그가 분명히 네 아내거늘 어찌 네 누이라 하였느냐 이삭이 그에게 대답하되 내 생각에 그로 말미암아 내가 죽게 될까 두려워하였음이로라  

26:10 아비멜렉이 이르되 네가 어찌 우리에게 이렇게 행하였느냐 백성 중 하나가 네 아내와 동침할 뻔하였도다 네가 죄를 우리에게 입혔으리라  

26:11 아비멜렉이 이에 모든 백성에게 명하여 이르되 이 사람이나 그의 아내를 범하는 자는 죽이리라 하였더라  

26:12 이삭이 그 땅에서 농사하여 그 해에 백 배나 얻었고 여호와께서 복을 주시므로  

26:13 그 사람이 창대하고 왕성하여 마침내 거부가 되어  

26:14 양과 소가 떼를 이루고 종이 심히 많으므로 블레셋 사람이 그를 시기하여  

26:15 그 아버지 아브라함 때에 그 아버지의 종들이 판 모든 우물을 막고 흙으로 메웠더라  

26:16 아비멜렉이 이삭에게 이르되 네가 우리보다 크게 강성한즉 우리를 떠나라  

26:17 이삭이 그 곳을 떠나 그랄 골짜기에 장막을 치고 거기 거류하며  

26:18 그 아버지 아브라함 때에 팠던 우물들을 다시 팠으니 이는 아브라함이 죽은 후에 블레셋 사람이 그 우물들을 메웠음이라 이삭이 그 우물들의 이름을 그의 아버지가 부르던 이름으로 불렀더라  

26:19 이삭의 종들이 골짜기를 파서 샘 근원을 얻었더니  

26:20 그랄 목자들이 이삭의 목자와 다투어 이르되 이 물은 우리의 것이라 하매 이삭이 그 다툼으로 말미암아 그 우물 이름을 에섹이라 하였으며  

26:21 또 다른 우물을 팠더니 그들이 또 다투므로 그 이름을 싯나라 하였으며  

26:22 이삭이 거기서 옮겨 다른 우물을 팠더니 그들이 다투지 아니하였으므로 그 이름을 르호봇이라 하여 이르되 이제는 여호와께서 우리를 위하여 넓게 하셨으니 이 땅에서 우리가 번성하리로다 하였더라 

26:1 Now there was a famine in the land--besides the earlier famine of Abraham's 

time--and Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines in Gerar.

26:2 The LORD appeared to Isaac and said, "Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live.

26:3 Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your 

descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham.

26:4 I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all 

these lands, and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed,

26:5 because Abraham obeyed me and kept my requirements, my commands, my decrees and 

my laws."

26:6 So Isaac stayed in Gerar.

26:7 When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, "She is my sister," 

because he was afraid to say, "She is my wife." He thought, "The men of this place might kill me 

on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful."

26:8 When Isaac had been there a long time, Abimelech king of the Philistines looked down 

from a window and saw Isaac caressing his wife Rebekah.

26:9 So Abimelech summoned Isaac and said, "She is really your wife! Why did you say, 'She is 

my sister'?" Isaac answered him, "Because I thought I might lose my life on account of her."

26:10 Then Abimelech said, "What is this you have done to us? One of the men might well have 

slept with your wife, and you would have brought guilt upon us."

26:11 So Abimelech gave orders to all the people: "Anyone who molests this man or his wife 

shall surely be put to death."

26:12 Isaac planted crops in that land and the same year reaped a hundredfold, because the 

LORD blessed him.

26:13 The man became rich, and his wealth continued to grow until he became very wealthy.

26:14 He had so many flocks and herds and servants that the Philistines envied him.

26:15 So all the wells that his father's servants had dug in the time of his father Abraham, 

the Philistines stopped up, filling them with earth.

26:16 Then Abimelech said to Isaac, "Move away from us; you have become too powerful for us."

26:17 So Isaac moved away from there and encamped in the Valley of Gerar and settled there.

26:18 Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the 

Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died, and he gave them the same names his father 

had given them.

26:19 Isaac's servants dug in the valley and discovered a well of fresh water there.

26:20 But the herdsmen of Gerar quarreled with Isaac's herdsmen and said, "The water is ours!" 

So he named the well Esek, because they disputed with him.

26:21 Then they dug another well, but they quarreled over that one also; so he named it Sitnah.

26:22 He moved on from there and dug another well, and no one quarreled over it. He named it 

Rehoboth, saying, "Now the LORD has given us room and we will flourish in the land."

마3:1~17

3:1 그 때에 세례 요한이 이르러 유대 광야에서 전파하여 말하되  

3:2 회개하라 천국이 가까이 왔느니라 하였으니  

3:3 그는 선지자 이사야를 통하여 말씀하신 자라 일렀으되 광야에 외치는 자의 소리가 있어 이르되 너희는 주의 길을 준비하라 그가 오실 길을 곧게 하라 하였느니라  

3:4 이 요한은 낙타털 옷을 입고 허리에 가죽 띠를 띠고 음식은 메뚜기와 석청이었더라  

3:5 이 때에 예루살렘과 온 유대와 요단 강 사방에서 다 그에게 나아와  

3:6 자기들의 죄를 자복하고 요단 강에서 그에게 세례를 받더니  

3:7 요한이 많은 바리새인들과 사두개인들이 세례 베푸는 데로 오는 것을 보고 이르되 독사의 자식들아 누가 너희를 가르쳐 임박한 진노를 피하라 하더냐  

3:8 그러므로 회개에 합당한 열매를 맺고  

3:9 속으로 아브라함이 우리 조상이라고 생각하지 말라 내가 너희에게 이르노니 하나님이 능히 이 돌들로도 아브라함의 자손이 되게 하시리라  

3:10 이미 도끼가 나무 뿌리에 놓였으니 좋은 열매를 맺지 아니하는 나무마다 찍혀 불에 던져지리라  

3:11 나는 너희로 회개하게 하기 위하여 물로 세례를 베풀거니와 내 뒤에 오시는 이는 나보다 능력이 많으시니 나는 그의 신을 들기도 감당하지 못하겠노라 그는 성령과 불로 너희에게 세례를 베푸실 것이요  

3:12 손에 키를 들고 자기의 타작 마당을 정하게 하사 알곡은 모아 곳간에 들이고 쭉정이는 꺼지지 않는 불에 태우시리라  

3:13 이 때에 예수께서 갈릴리로부터 요단 강에 이르러 요한에게 세례를 받으려 하시니  

3:14 요한이 말려 이르되 내가 당신에게서 세례를 받아야 할 터인데 당신이 내게로 오시나이까  

3:15 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 이제 허락하라 우리가 이와 같이 하여 모든 의를 이루는 것이 합당하니라 하시니 이에 요한이 허락하는지라  

3:16 예수께서 세례를 받으시고 곧 물에서 올라오실새 하늘이 열리고 하나님의 성령이 비둘기 같이 내려 자기 위에 임하심을 보시더니  

3:17 하늘로부터 소리가 있어 말씀하시되 이는 내 사랑하는 아들이요 내 기뻐하는 자라 하시니라 

3:1 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the Desert of Judea

3:2 and saying, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."

3:3 This is he who was spoken of through the prophet Isaiah: "A voice of one calling in the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord, make straight paths for him.'"

3:4 John's clothes were made of camel's hair, and he had a leather belt around his waist. 

His food was locusts and wild honey.

3:5 People went out to him from Jerusalem and all Judea and the whole region of the Jordan.

3:6 Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River.

3:7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, 

he said to them: "You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?

3:8 Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.

3:9 And do not think you can say to yourselves, 'We have Abraham as our father.' I tell you that 

out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.

3:10 The ax is already at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.

3:11 "I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful 

than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.

3:12 His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat 

into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

3:13 Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John.

3:14 But John tried to deter him, saying, "I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?"

3:15 Jesus replied, "Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness." 

Then John consented.

3:16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was 

opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.

3:17 And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased." 

요16:4~24절

16:4 오직 너희에게 이 말을 한 것은 너희로 그 때를 당하면 내가 너희에게 말한 이것을 기억나게 하려 함이요 처음부터 이 말을 하지 아니한 것은 내가 너희와 함께 있었음이라  

16:5 지금 내가 나를 보내신 이에게로 가는데 너희 중에서 나더러 어디로 가는지 묻는 자가 없고  

16:6 도리어 내가 이 말을 하므로 너희 마음에 근심이 가득하였도다  

16:7 그러나 내가 너희에게 실상을 말하노니 내가 떠나가는 것이 너희에게 유익이라 내가 떠나가지 아니하면 보혜사가 너희에게로 오시지 아니할 것이요 가면 내가 그를 너희에게로 보내리니  

16:8 그가 와서 죄에 대하여, 의에 대하여, 심판에 대하여 세상을 책망하시리라  

16:9 죄에 대하여라 함은 그들이 나를 믿지 아니함이요  

16:10 의에 대하여라 함은 내가 아버지께로 가니 너희가 다시 나를 보지 못함이요  

16:11 심판에 대하여라 함은 이 세상 임금이 심판을 받았음이라  

16:12 내가 아직도 너희에게 이를 것이 많으나 지금은 너희가 감당하지 못하리라  

16:13 그러나 진리의 성령이 오시면 그가 너희를 모든 진리 가운데로 인도하시리니 그가 스스로 말하지 않고 오직 들은 것을 말하며 장래 일을 너희에게 알리시리라  

16:14 그가 내 영광을 나타내리니 내 것을 가지고 너희에게 알리시겠음이라  

16:15 무릇 아버지께 있는 것은 다 내 것이라 그러므로 내가 말하기를 그가 내 것을 가지고 너희에게 알리시리라 하였노라  

16:16 조금 있으면 너희가 나를 보지 못하겠고 또 조금 있으면 나를 보리라 하시니  

16:17 제자 중에서 서로 말하되 우리에게 말씀하신 바 조금 있으면 나를 보지 못하겠고 또 조금 있으면 나를 보리라 하시며 또 내가 아버지께로 감이라 하신 것이 무슨 말씀이냐 하고  

16:18 또 말하되 조금 있으면이라 하신 말씀이 무슨 말씀이냐 무엇을 말씀하시는지 알지 못하노라 하거늘  

16:19 예수께서 그 묻고자 함을 아시고 이르시되 내 말이 조금 있으면 나를 보지 못하겠고 또 조금 있으면 나를 보리라 하므로 서로 문의하느냐  

16:20 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 너희는 곡하고 애통하겠으나 세상은 기뻐하리라 너희는 근심하겠으나 너희 근심이 도리어 기쁨이 되리라  

16:21 여자가 해산하게 되면 그 때가 이르렀으므로 근심하나 아기를 낳으면 세상에 사람 난 기쁨으로 말미암아 그 고통을 다시 기억하지 아니하느니라  

16:22 지금은 너희가 근심하나 내가 다시 너희를 보리니 너희 마음이 기쁠 것이요 너희 기쁨을 빼앗을 자가 없으리라  

16:23 그 날에는 너희가 아무 것도 내게 묻지 아니하리라 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 너희가 무엇이든지 아버지께 구하는 것을 내 이름으로 주시리라  

16:24 지금까지는 너희가 내 이름으로 아무 것도 구하지 아니하였으나 구하라 그리하면 받으리니 너희 기쁨이 충만하리라 

16:4 I have told you this, so that when the time comes you will remember that I warned you. 

I did not tell you this at first because I was with you.

16:5 "Now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, 'Where are you going?'

16:6 Because I have said these things, you are filled with grief.

16:7 But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, 

the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.

16:8 When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment:

16:9 in regard to sin, because men do not believe in me;

16:10 in regard to righteousness, because I am going to the Father, where you can see me no longer;

16:11 and in regard to judgment, because the prince of this world now stands condemned.

16:12 "I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.

16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. 

He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.

16:14 He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.

16:15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is 

mine and make it known to you.

16:16 "In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me."

16:17 Some of his disciples said to one another, "What does he mean by saying, 'In a little while 

you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,' and 'Because I am going 

to the Father'?"

16:18 They kept asking, "What does he mean by 'a little while'? We don't understand what he is 

saying."

16:19 Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, "Are you asking one 

another what I meant when I said, 'In a little while you will see me no more, and then after 

a little while you will see me'?

16:20 I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, 

but your grief will turn to joy.

16:21 A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby 

is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.

16:22 So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, 

and no one will take away your joy.

16:23 In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.

16:24 Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your 

joy will be complete.

창27장 8~29절

27:8 그런즉 내 아들아 내 말을 따라 내가 네게 명하는 대로  

27:9 염소 떼에 가서 거기서 좋은 염소 새끼 두 마리를 내게로 가져오면 내가 그것으로 네 아버지를 위하여 그가 

즐기시는 별미를 만들리니  

27:10 네가 그것을 네 아버지께 가져다 드려서 그가 죽기 전에 네게 축복하기 위하여 잡수시게 하라  

27:11 야곱이 그 어머니 리브가에게 이르되 내 형 에서는 털이 많은 사람이요 나는 매끈매끈한 사람인즉  

27:12 아버지께서 나를 만지실진대 내가 아버지의 눈에 속이는 자로 보일지라 복은 고사하고 저주를 받을까 

하나이다  

27:13 어머니가 그에게 이르되 내 아들아 너의 저주는 내게로 돌리리니 내 말만 따르고 가서 가져오라  

27:14 그가 가서 끌어다가 어머니에게로 가져왔더니 그의 어머니가 그의 아버지가 즐기는 별미를 만들었더라  

27:15 리브가가 집 안 자기에게 있는 그의 맏아들 에서의 좋은 의복을 가져다가 그의 작은 아들 야곱에게 입히고  

27:16 또 염소 새끼의 가죽을 그의 손과 목의 매끈매끈한 곳에 입히고  

27:17 자기가 만든 별미와 떡을 자기 아들 야곱의 손에 주니  

27:18 야곱이 아버지에게 나아가서 내 아버지여 하고 부르니 이르되 내가 여기 있노라 내 아들아 네가 누구냐  

27:19 야곱이 아버지에게 대답하되 나는 아버지의 맏아들 에서로소이다 아버지께서 내게 명하신 대로 내가 

하였사오니 원하건대 일어나 앉아서 내가 사냥한 고기를 잡수시고 아버지 마음껏 내게 축복하소서  

27:20 이삭이 그의 아들에게 이르되 내 아들아 네가 어떻게 이같이 속히 잡았느냐 그가 이르되 아버지의 하나님 

여호와께서 나로 순조롭게 만나게 하셨음이니이다  

27:21 이삭이 야곱에게 이르되 내 아들아 가까이 오라 네가 과연 내 아들 에서인지 아닌지 내가 너를 만져보려 

하노라  

27:22 야곱이 그 아버지 이삭에게 가까이 가니 이삭이 만지며 이르되 음성은 야곱의 음성이나 손은 에서의 

손이로다 하며  

27:23 그의 손이 형 에서의 손과 같이 털이 있으므로 분별하지 못하고 축복하였더라  

27:24 이삭이 이르되 네가 참 내 아들 에서냐 그가 대답하되 그러하니이다  

27:25 이삭이 이르되 내게로 가져오라 내 아들이 사냥한 고기를 먹고 내 마음껏 네게 축복하리라 야곱이 

그에게로 가져가매 그가 먹고 또 포도주를 가져가매 그가 마시고  

27:26 그의 아버지 이삭이 그에게 이르되 내 아들아 가까이 와서 내게 입맞추라  

27:27 그가 가까이 가서 그에게 입맞추니 아버지가 그의 옷의 향취를 맡고 그에게 축복하여 이르되 내 아들의 

향취는 여호와께서 복 주신 밭의 향취로다  

27:28 하나님은 하늘의 이슬과 땅의 기름짐이며 풍성한 곡식과 포도주를 네게 주시기를 원하노라  

27:29 만민이 너를 섬기고 열국이 네게 굴복하리니 네가 형제들의 주가 되고 네 어머니의 아들들이 네게 

굴복하며 너를 저주하는 자는 저주를 받고 너를 축복하는 자는 복을 받기를 원하노라 

27:8 Now, my son, listen carefully and do what I tell you:

27:9 Go out to the flock and bring me two choice young goats, 

so I can prepare some tasty food for your father, just the way he likes it.

27:10 Then take it to your father to eat, so that he may give you his blessing before he dies."

27:11 Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, "But my brother Esau is a hairy man, 

and I'm a man with smooth skin.

27:12 What if my father touches me? I would appear to be tricking him and would bring down 

a curse on myself rather than a blessing."

27:13 His mother said to him, "My son, let the curse fall on me. Just do what I say; 

go and get them for me."

27:14 So he went and got them and brought them to his mother, and she prepared some tasty 

food, just the way his father liked it.

27:15 Then Rebekah took the best clothes of Esau her older son, which she had in the house, 

and put them on her younger son Jacob.

27:16 She also covered his hands and the smooth part of his neck with the goatskins.

27:17 Then she handed to her son Jacob the tasty food and the bread she had made.

27:18 He went to his father and said, "My father." "Yes, my son," he answered. "Who is it?"

27:19 Jacob said to his father, "I am Esau your firstborn. I have done as you told me. Please sit up and eat some of my game so that you may give me your blessing."

27:20 Isaac asked his son, "How did you find it so quickly, my son?" "The LORD your God gave me success," he replied.

27:21 Then Isaac said to Jacob, "Come near so I can touch you, my son, 

to know whether you really are my son Esau or not."

27:22 Jacob went close to his father Isaac, who touched him and said, 

"The voice is the voice of Jacob, but the hands are the hands of Esau."

27:23 He did not recognize him, for his hands were hairy like those of his brother Esau; 

so he blessed him.

27:24 "Are you really my son Esau?" he asked. "I am," he replied.

27:25 Then he said, "My son, bring me some of your game to eat, so that I may give you my 

blessing." Jacob brought it to him and he ate; and he brought some wine and he drank.

27:26 Then his father Isaac said to him, "Come here, my son, and kiss me."

27:27 So he went to him and kissed him. When Isaac caught the smell of his clothes, 

he blessed him and said, "Ah, the smell of my son is like the smell of a field that the LORD has 

blessed.

27:28 May God give you of heaven's dew and of earth's richness--an abundance of grain and new wine.

27:29 May nations serve you and peoples bow down to you. Be lord over your brothers, 

and may the sons of your mother bow down to you. May those who curse you be cursed 

and those who bless you be blessed."

눅18:1~14절

18:1 예수께서 그들에게 항상 기도하고 낙심하지 말아야 할 것을 비유로 말씀하여  

18:2 이르시되 어떤 도시에 하나님을 두려워하지 않고 사람을 무시하는 한 재판장이 있는데  

18:3 그 도시에 한 과부가 있어 자주 그에게 가서 내 원수에 대한 나의 원한을 풀어 주소서 하되  

18:4 그가 얼마 동안 듣지 아니하다가 후에 속으로 생각하되 내가 하나님을 두려워하지 않고 사람을 무시하나  

18:5 이 과부가 나를 번거롭게 하니 내가 그 원한을 풀어 주리라 그렇지 않으면 늘 와서 나를 괴롭게 하리라 

하였느니라  

18:6 주께서 또 이르시되 불의한 재판장이 말한 것을 들으라  

18:7 하물며 하나님께서 그 밤낮 부르짖는 택하신 자들의 원한을 풀어 주지 아니하시겠느냐 그들에게 오래 

참으시겠느냐  

18:8 내가 너희에게 이르노니 속히 그 원한을 풀어 주시리라 그러나 인자가 올 때에 세상에서 믿음을 보겠느냐 

하시니라 

18:9 또 자기를 의롭다고 믿고 다른 사람을 멸시하는 자들에게 이 비유로 말씀하시되  

18:10 두 사람이 기도하러 성전에 올라가니 하나는 바리새인이요 하나는 세리라  

18:11 바리새인은 서서 따로 기도하여 이르되 하나님이여 나는 다른 사람들 곧 토색, 불의, 간음을 하는 자들과 

같지 아니하고 이 세리와도 같지 아니함을 감사하나이다  

18:12 나는 이레에 두 번씩 금식하고 또 소득의 십일조를 드리나이다 하고  

18:13 세리는 멀리 서서 감히 눈을 들어 하늘을 쳐다보지도 못하고 다만 가슴을 치며 이르되 하나님이여 불쌍히 

여기소서 나는 죄인이로소이다 하였느니라  

18:14 내가 너희에게 이르노니 이에 저 바리새인이 아니고 이 사람이 의롭다 하심을 받고 그의 집으로 내려갔느니라 무릇 자기를 높이는 자는 낮아지고 자기를 낮추는 자는 높아지리라 하시니라 

18:1 Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and 

not give up.

18:2 He said: "In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men.

18:3 And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 

'Grant me justice against my adversary.'

18:4 "For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 

'Even though I don't fear God or care about men,

18:5 yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will see that she gets justice, 

so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!'"

18:6 And the Lord said, "Listen to what the unjust judge says.

18:7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, 

who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?

18:8 I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, 

when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?"

18:9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and 

looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable:

18:10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

18:11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: 'God, I thank you that I am not like 

other men--robbers, evildoers, adulterers--or even like this tax collector.

18:12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.'

18:13 "But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, 

but beat his breast and said, 'God, have mercy on me, a sinner.'

18:14 "I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. 

For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

왕하5:1~16

5:1 아람 왕의 군대 장관 나아만은 그의 주인 앞에서 크고 존귀한 자니 이는 여호와께서 전에 그에게 아람을 

구원하게 하셨음이라 그는 큰 용사이나 나병환자더라  

5:2 전에 아람 사람이 떼를 지어 나가서 이스라엘 땅에서 어린 소녀 하나를 사로잡으매 그가 나아만의 아내에게 

수종들더니  

5:3 그의 여주인에게 이르되 우리 주인이 사마리아에 계신 선지자 앞에 계셨으면 좋겠나이다 그가 그 나병을 

고치리이다 하는지라  

5:4 나아만이 들어가서 그의 주인께 아뢰어 이르되 이스라엘 땅에서 온 소녀의 말이 이러이러하더이다 하니  

5:5 아람 왕이 이르되 갈지어다 이제 내가 이스라엘 왕에게 글을 보내리라 하더라 나아만이 곧 떠날새 

은 십 달란트와 금 육천 개와 의복 열 벌을 가지고 가서  

5:6 이스라엘 왕에게 그 글을 전하니 일렀으되 내가 내 신하 나아만을 당신에게 보내오니 이 글이 당신에게 

이르거든 당신은 그의 나병을 고쳐 주소서 하였더라  

5:7 이스라엘 왕이 그 글을 읽고 자기 옷을 찢으며 이르되 내가 사람을 죽이고 살리는 하나님이냐 그가 어찌하여 

사람을 내게로 보내 그의 나병을 고치라 하느냐 너희는 깊이 생각하고 저 왕이 틈을 타서 나와 더불어 시비하려 

함인줄 알라 하니라  

5:8 하나님의 사람 엘리사가 이스라엘 왕이 자기의 옷을 찢었다 함을 듣고 왕에게 보내 이르되 왕이 어찌하여 

옷을 찢었나이까 그 사람을 내게로 오게 하소서 그가 이스라엘 중에 선지자가 있는 줄을 알리이다 하니라  

5:9 나아만이 이에 말들과 병거들을 거느리고 이르러 엘리사의 집 문에 서니  

5:10 엘리사가 사자를 그에게 보내 이르되 너는 가서 요단 강에 몸을 일곱 번 씻으라 네 살이 회복되어 깨끗하리라 하는지라  

5:11 나아만이 노하여 물러가며 이르되 내 생각에는 그가 내게로 나와 서서 그의 하나님 여호와의 이름을 부르고 

그의 손을 그 부위 위에 흔들어 나병을 고칠까 하였도다  

5:12 다메섹 강 아바나와 바르발은 이스라엘 모든 강물보다 낫지 아니하냐 내가 거기서 몸을 씻으면 깨끗하게 

되지 아니하랴 하고 몸을 돌려 분노하여 떠나니 

5:13 그의 종들이 나아와서 말하여 이르되 내 아버지여 선지자가 당신에게 큰 일을 행하라 말하였더면 행하지 

아니하였으리이까 하물며 당신에게 이르기를 씻어 깨끗하게 하라 함이리이까 하니  

5:14 나아만이 이에 내려가서 하나님의 사람의 말대로 요단 강에 일곱 번 몸을 잠그니 그의 살이 어린 아이의 살 

같이 회복되어 깨끗하게 되었더라 

5:15 나아만이 모든 군대와 함께 하나님의 사람에게로 도로 와서 그의 앞에 서서 이르되 내가 이제 이스라엘 

외에는 온 천하에 신이 없는 줄을 아나이다 청하건대 당신의 종에게서 예물을 받으소서 하니  

5:16 이르되 내가 섬기는 여호와께서 살아 계심을 두고 맹세하노니 내가 그 앞에서 받지 아니하리라 하였더라 

나아만이 받으라고 강권하되 그가 거절하니라  

5:1 Now Naaman was commander of the army of the king of Aram. He was a great man 

in the sight of his master and highly regarded, because through him the LORD had given 

victory to Aram. He was a valiant soldier, but he had leprosy.

5:2 Now bands from Aram had gone out and had taken captive a young girl from Israel, 

and she served Naaman's wife.

5:3 She said to her mistress, "If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! 

He would cure him of his leprosy."

5:4 Naaman went to his master and told him what the girl from Israel had said.

5:5 "By all means, go," the king of Aram replied. "I will send a letter to the king of Israel." 

So Naaman left, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and 

ten sets of clothing.

5:6 The letter that he took to the king of Israel read: "With this letter I am sending my servant 

Naaman to you so that you may cure him of his leprosy."

5:7 As soon as the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his robes and said, "Am I God? 

Can I kill and bring back to life? Why does this fellow send someone to me to be cured of 

his leprosy? See how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me!"

5:8 When Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his robes, he sent him 

this message: "Why have you torn your robes? Have the man come to me and he will know 

that there is a prophet in Israel."

5:9 So Naaman went with his horses and chariots and stopped at the door of Elisha's house.

5:10 Elisha sent a messenger to say to him, "Go, wash yourself seven times in the Jordan, 

and your flesh will be restored and you will be cleansed."

5:11 But Naaman went away angry and said, "I thought that he would surely come out to me 

and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, wave his hand over the spot and cure me 

of my leprosy.

5:12 Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than any of the waters of Israel? 

Couldn't I wash in them and be cleansed?" So he turned and went off in a rage.

5:13 Naaman's servants went to him and said, "My father, if the prophet had told you to do some 

great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, 'Wash and 

be cleansed'!"

5:14 So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told 

him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.

5:15 Then Naaman and all his attendants went back to the man of God. He stood before him and 

said, "Now I know that there is no God in all the world except in Israel. Please accept now a gift 

from your servant."

5:16 The prophet answered, "As surely as the LORD lives, whom I serve, I will not accept a thing." And even though Naaman urged him, he refused.

요6:28~48절

6:28 그들이 묻되 우리가 어떻게 하여야 하나님의 일을 하오리이까  

6:29 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 하나님께서 보내신 이를 믿는 것이 하나님의 일이니라 하시니  

6:30 그들이 묻되 그러면 우리가 보고 당신을 믿도록 행하시는 표적이 무엇이니이까, 하시는 일이 무엇이니이까  

6:31 기록된 바 하늘에서 그들에게 떡을 주어 먹게 하였다 함과 같이 우리 조상들은 광야에서 만나를 먹었나이다  

6:32 예수께서 이르시되 내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 모세가 너희에게 하늘로부터 떡을 준 것이 아니라 

내 아버지께서 너희에게 하늘로부터 참 떡을 주시나니  

6:33 하나님의 떡은 하늘에서 내려 세상에 생명을 주는 것이니라  

6:34 그들이 이르되 주여 이 떡을 항상 우리에게 주소서  

6:35 예수께서 이르시되 나는 생명의 떡이니 내게 오는 자는 결코 주리지 아니할 터이요 나를 믿는 자는 영원히 

목마르지 아니하리라  

6:36 그러나 내가 너희에게 이르기를 너희는 나를 보고도 믿지 아니하는도다 하였느니라  

6:37 아버지께서 내게 주시는 자는 다 내게로 올 것이요 내게 오는 자는 내가 결코 내쫓지 아니하리라  

6:38 내가 하늘에서 내려온 것은 내 뜻을 행하려 함이 아니요 나를 보내신 이의 뜻을 행하려 함이니라 

6:39 나를 보내신 이의 뜻은 내게 주신 자 중에 내가 하나도 잃어버리지 아니하고 마지막 날에 다시 살리는 이것이니라 

6:40 내 아버지의 뜻은 아들을 보고 믿는 자마다 영생을 얻는 이것이니 마지막 날에 내가 이를 다시 살리리라 하시니라 

6:41 자기가 하늘에서 내려온 떡이라 하시므로 유대인들이 예수에 대하여 수군거려  

6:42 이르되 이는 요셉의 아들 예수가 아니냐 그 부모를 우리가 아는데 자기가 지금 어찌하여 하늘에서 내려왔다 

하느냐  

6:43 예수께서 대답하여 이르시되 너희는 서로 수군거리지 말라  

6:44 나를 보내신 아버지께서 이끌지 아니하시면 아무도 내게 올 수 없으니 오는 그를 내가 마지막 날에 다시 살리리라  

6:45 선지자의 글에 그들이 다 하나님의 가르치심을 받으리라 기록되었은즉 아버지께 듣고 배운 사람마다 내게로 

오느니라  

6:46 이는 아버지를 본 자가 있다는 것이 아니니라 오직 하나님에게서 온 자만 아버지를 보았느니라  

6:47 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 믿는 자는 영생을 가졌나니  

6:48 내가 곧 생명의 떡이니라  

6:28 Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?"

6:29 Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent."

6:30 So they asked him, "What miraculous sign then will you give that we may see it and 

believe you? What will you do?

6:31 Our forefathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written: 'He gave them bread from 

heaven to eat.'"

6:32 Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from 

heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven.

6:33 For the bread of God is he who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

6:34 "Sir," they said, "from now on give us this bread."

6:35 Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, 

and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

6:36 But as I told you, you have seen me and still you do not believe.

6:37 All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never 

drive away.

6:38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.

6:39 And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all that he has given me, 

but raise them up at the last day.

6:40 For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have 

eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

6:41 At this the Jews began to grumble about him because he said, "I am the bread that came 

down from heaven."

6:42 They said, "Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? 

How can he now say, 'I came down from heaven'?"

6:43 "Stop grumbling among yourselves," Jesus answered.

6:44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up 

at the last day.

6:45 It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to 

the Father and learns from him comes to me.

6:46 No one has seen the Father except the one who is from God; only he has seen the Father.

6:47 I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.

6:48 I am the bread of life.

눅14:25~35절

14:25 수많은 무리가 함께 갈새 예수께서 돌이키사 이르시되  

14:26 무릇 내게 오는 자가 자기 부모와 처자와 형제와 자매와 더욱이 자기 목숨까지 미워하지 아니하면 능히 내 제자가 되지 못하고  

14:27 누구든지 자기 십자가를 지고 나를 따르지 않는 자도 능히 내 제자가 되지 못하리라  

14:28 너희 중의 누가 망대를 세우고자 할진대 자기의 가진 것이 준공하기까지에 족할는지 먼저 앉아 그 비용을 계산하지 아니하겠느냐  

14:29 그렇게 아니하여 그 기초만 쌓고 능히 이루지 못하면 보는 자가 다 비웃어  

14:30 이르되 이 사람이 공사를 시작하고 능히 이루지 못하였다 하리라  

14:31 또 어떤 임금이 다른 임금과 싸우러 갈 때에 먼저 앉아 일만 명으로써 저 이만 명을 거느리고 오는 자를 대적할 수 있을까 헤아리지 아니하겠느냐  

14:32 만일 못할 터이면 그가 아직 멀리 있을 때에 사신을 보내어 화친을 청할지니라  

14:33 이와 같이 너희 중의 누구든지 자기의 모든 소유를 버리지 아니하면 능히 내 제자가 되지 못하리라  

14:34 소금이 좋은 것이나 소금도 만일 그 맛을 잃으면 무엇으로 짜게 하리요  

14:35 땅에도, 거름에도 쓸 데 없어 내버리느니라 들을 귀가 있는 자는 들을지어다 하시니라 

14:25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said:

14:26 "If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children,

 his brothers and sisters--yes, even his own life--he cannot be my disciple.

14:27 And anyone who does not carry his cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

14:28 "Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Will he not first sit down and estimate 

the cost to see if he has enough money to complete it?

14:29 For if he lays the foundation and is not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule 

him,

14:30 saying, 'This fellow began to build and was not able to finish.'

14:31 "Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Will he not first sit down 

and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him 

with twenty thousand?

14:32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will 

ask for terms of peace.

14:33 In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.

14:34 "Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again?

14:35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. "He who has ears to 

hear, let him hear." 

막5:1~20

5:1 예수께서 바다 건너편 거라사인의 지방에 이르러  

5:2 배에서 나오시매 곧 더러운 귀신 들린 사람이 무덤 사이에서 나와 예수를 만나니라  

5:3 그 사람은 무덤 사이에 거처하는데 이제는 아무도 그를 쇠사슬로도 맬 수 없게 되었으니  

5:4 이는 여러 번 고랑과 쇠사슬에 매였어도 쇠사슬을 끊고 고랑을 깨뜨렸음이러라 그리하여 아무도 그를 

제어할 힘이 없는지라  

5:5 밤낮 무덤 사이에서나 산에서나 늘 소리 지르며 돌로 자기의 몸을 해치고 있었더라  

5:6 그가 멀리서 예수를 보고 달려와 절하며  

5:7 큰 소리로 부르짖어 이르되 지극히 높으신 하나님의 아들 예수여 나와 당신이 무슨 상관이 있나이까 

원하건대 하나님 앞에 맹세하고 나를 괴롭히지 마옵소서 하니  

5:8 이는 예수께서 이미 그에게 이르시기를 더러운 귀신아 그 사람에게서 나오라 하셨음이라  

5:9 이에 물으시되 네 이름이 무엇이냐 이르되 내 이름은 군대니 우리가 많음이니이다 하고  

5:10 자기를 그 지방에서 내보내지 마시기를 간구하더니  

5:11 마침 거기 돼지의 큰 떼가 산 곁에서 먹고 있는지라  

5:12 이에 간구하여 이르되 우리를 돼지에게로 보내어 들어가게 하소서 하니  

5:13 허락하신대 더러운 귀신들이 나와서 돼지에게로 들어가매 거의 이천 마리 되는 떼가 바다를 향하여 비탈로 

내리달아 바다에서 몰사하거늘  

5:14 치던 자들이 도망하여 읍내와 여러 마을에 말하니 사람들이 어떻게 되었는지를 보러 와서  

5:15 예수께 이르러 그 귀신 들렸던 자 곧 군대 귀신 지폈던 자가 옷을 입고 정신이 온전하여 앉은 것을 보고 두려워하더라  

5:16 이에 귀신 들렸던 자가 당한 것과 돼지의 일을 본 자들이 그들에게 알리매  

5:17 그들이 예수께 그 지방에서 떠나시기를 간구하더라  

5:18 예수께서 배에 오르실 때에 귀신 들렸던 사람이 함께 있기를 간구하였으나  

5:19 허락하지 아니하시고 그에게 이르시되 집으로 돌아가 주께서 네게 어떻게 큰 일을 행하사 너를 불쌍히 여기신 것을 네 가족에게 알리라 하시니  

5:20 그가 가서 예수께서 자기에게 어떻게 큰 일 행하셨는지를 데가볼리에 전파하니 모든 사람이 놀랍게 여기더라 

5:1 They went across the lake to the region of the Gerasenes.

5:2 When Jesus got out of the boat, a man with an evil spirit came from the tombs to meet him.

5:3 This man lived in the tombs, and no one could bind him any more, not even with a chain.

5:4 For he had often been chained hand and foot, but he tore the chains apart and broke 

the irons on his feet. No one was strong enough to subdue him.

5:5 Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.

5:6 When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.

5:7 He shouted at the top of his voice, "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High 

God? Swear to God that you won't torture me!"

5:8 For Jesus had said to him, "Come out of this man, you evil spirit!"

5:9 Then Jesus asked him, "What is your name?" "My name is Legion," he replied, "for we are 

many."

5:10 And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.

5:11 A large herd of pigs was feeding on the nearby hillside.

5:12 The demons begged Jesus, "Send us among the pigs; allow us to go into them."

5:13 He gave them permission, and the evil spirits came out and went into the pigs. 

The herd, about two thousand in number, rushed down the steep bank into the lake 

and were drowned.

5:14 Those tending the pigs ran off and reported this in the town and countryside, and 

the people went out to see what had happened.

5:15 When they came to Jesus, they saw the man who had been possessed by the legion of 

demons, sitting there, dressed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.

5:16 Those who had seen it told the people what had happened to the demon-possessed 

man--and told about the pigs as well.

5:17 Then the people began to plead with Jesus to leave their region.

5:18 As Jesus was getting into the boat, the man who had been demon possessed begged

to go with him.

5:19 Jesus did not let him, but said, "Go home to your family and tell them how much 

the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you."

5:20 So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis how much Jesus had done 

for him. And all the people were amazed.
